Hosted by IGLYO Comms & Network Officer Toryn (She/her), our Portraits of Queer Youth podcast series gives a platform to young queer activists from across the globe to share their powerful stories, describe the local LGBTQI landscape in their region, and share their messages of hope to queer youth peers worldwide.
#1. Turning Trials into Triumphs with Kai Mata (She), Indonesia
This first episode centres on Kai Mata (She/her), a famous young Indonesian queer artivist who bridges the gap between music and activism and uses art as a vessel for LGBTIQ+ liberation. Kai is the current Joint Annual Engaged Artivist award recipient from the Auschwitz Institute, Binghamton University and Global Campus of Human Rights. She proudly gained a reputation for "turning trials into triumphs, venom into vitality and death threats into love notes".

#2. "Transing" Academia with Lilith (They/She), Turkey
This second episode centres on Lilith (They/She), Fundraiser and International Relations Coordinator at our IGLYO Member Organisation Pink Life LGBTI Solidarity Association, the only trans self-led organisation in Turkey. Lilith is also a master's degree student at the Boğaziçi University Linguistics Department, where their passion is “transing” academia: transforming the academic field with trans perspective.

#3. Supporting Queer Afghan Refugees with Artemis, Czechia
This third podcast centres on Artemis, co-founder of our IGLYO Member Organisation the Afghanistan LGBTQI+ Organization (ALO) based in Czechia. Artemis shares their unique experience of supporting queer Afghan refugees in a European context based on their lived experience as a refugee, and explains the importance of amplifying the voices of refugees and migrants by hearing and sharing their stories.

#4. Thriving in Queer Advocacy with Tavonga, Zimbabwe
This fourth episode centres on Tavonga (She/her), a dedicated lawyer and human rights advocate with a specialised focus on LGBTQI communities in Zimbabwe. Having worked with different local LGBTQI communities and organisations, Tavonga provides free legal advice to local community members who cannot afford it. To her, being queer is the greatest form of self-love.
