About this Publication
In November 2022, IGLYO convened an international youth conference in Zagreb, Croatia, uniting LGBTQI youth activists and experts. The primary objective was to delve into the multifaceted challenges confronting LGBTQI youth in the realm of healthcare. The conference aimed to unearth recommendations that could be leveraged by States, international organizations, civil society, and various stakeholders to effectively, equitably, and safely address the hurdles obstructing LGBTQI youth from accessing quality healthcare. The focal points of discussion encompassed reproductive health, mental well-being, sexuality education, and healthcare accessibility, all scrutinized through the lens of young LGBTQI perspectives.
Drawing from the rich tapestry of insights and recommendations forged during these discussions, IGLYO took a significant step forward. On December 11, 2022, in Brussels, we established an Advocacy Working Group tasked with shaping health guidelines. The objective was to provide comprehensive guidance for stakeholders navigating and addressing the myriad issues faced by LGBTQI youth in the realm of health.
This document, in its final form, emerges from the collaborative efforts of IGLYO’s advocacy and research team. Its purpose is to seamlessly connect the pivotal findings of the international youth conference and the Advocacy Working Group with the human rights principles enshrined in international and European human rights law. Five fundamental human rights and one guiding principle serve as the cornerstone, reflecting the core values of justice and democracy. Through this document, we aspire to establish a connection between the challenges encountered by LGBTQI youth and these foundational human rights.
