The 19th Country in the World
Congratulations to all the activists who have worked hard over many years so that yesterday the Finnish Parliament adopted a new law for legal gender recognition based on self-determination. With this law, Finland becomes the 19th country in the world to allow legal gender recognition based on self-determination!
While we celebrate the advancement of the rights of trans people in Finland, the law doesn’t apply to people under 18, intersex people, non-binary people, and any other person with a gender identity that falls outside the binary.
There is still a lot of work to do, so that the rights of all our communities are protected by national legislation, but this is an important step forward. Read more on transfeminiinit's page.
