Queer Cyprus Association

Queer Cyprus is a civil society movement that aims to change discriminatory laws in the north part of Cyprus and promote the rights and freedom of individuals regardless of their language, religious belief, colour, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual expression, age, or ethnicity.

The movement, formerly known as the Initiative Against Homophobia, was renamed in 2012 and advocates for diversity, opposes pressure tactics, and has a feminist, antimilitarist, ecologist, and veganist orientation.

Their mission

The mission of Queer Cyprus Association is to support LGBTI rights, counter discrimination based on gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, and gender identity, organise and contribute to activities related to social issues, conduct scientific research, and organise local and international exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and workshops.

The organisation also aims to lobby and take legal action to enhance and protect universal human rights and freedom, collaborate with similar organisations, organise social and cultural events, and hold training courses to ensure communication and unity among members.

Queer Cyprus plans to achieve these missions by archiving books, journals, and similar documents, printing, publishing, preparing, distributing, circulating and selling all types of paper, tapes, websites, CDs, brochures, leaflets, radio, and TV programmes, and, if required, purchasing or leasing immovable and movable properties and employing professional personnel or purchasing services to enhance service quality.
