About

Iguales USAL

Iguales USAL is an organisation that works in Salamanca, Spain, focusing particularly on the University of Salamanca and the needs of the queer students as well as the faculty. Most of their activities are catered to this demographic, covering areas such as capacity building, health and leisure.

Their mission

Iguales USAL was born as a student section for the main LGBTI+ organisation in their community, Iguales — although they are currently two separate organisations even if they work closely together. Their main aim is to bring LGBTI+ activism to university spaces, especially considering that the city they mostly work in is a “university city” and thus the main demographic during the academic terms are students and faculty.

Some of the aims that are included in their statutes are to raise awareness around LGBTI+ issues at the University of Salamanca, provide legal and psychological support to the university community in the face of discrimination and harassment, organise cultural and social activities that promote the value of diversity, offer support and solidarity to those who live with HIV, and defend the rights and strive towards the inclusion of other minority identities that intersect with the queer community.

Overall, and to sum up their vision, they work towards real and effective equality for all queer people in university spaces.
