As an independent association dedicated to advocating for and protecting the civil rights of LGBTQIA+, Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli promotes cultural and social activities and has an internal youth group.
They have been actively engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. They also operate in the political, social, and cultural frames, collaborating with other LGBTQI organisations and organisations dedicated to defending and promoting human and civil rights and fighting discrimination.
In the political arena, Circolo Mario Mieli works against homophobic and transphobic prejudice, advocates for civil rights, and promotes a culture of acceptance for differences through various means, including influencing mass media, political parties, and institutions.
To this end, they organise political initiatives, debates, demonstrations, and have been responsible for organising the Pride event in Rome since 1994.
